Visit Hawkins' Scoops Ahoy: The Stranger Things Season 3 Pop Up in Los Angeles
Scoops Ahoy! The Stranger Things Season 3 Pop Up in Los Angeles
The year is 1985. It’s a sweltering hot summer and if there is one place all the cool kids are hanging out at, it’s the Starcourt mall.
Ok, ok… enough joking around. Thankfully, the town of Hawkins and all their demons don’t exist on our dimension. But luckily for us, we might get to enjoy the happier experiences from the ever-so-popular Netflix show, Stranger Things. So if you’re a huge Stranger Things fan, or just a fan of ice cream in general, keep on reading for the scoop on the Stranger Things collaboration with Baskin-Robbins, where they bring Hawkins’ very own Scoops Ahoy ice cream parlor to life in sunny Los Angeles!
What is Scoops Ahoy?
If you aren’t all caught up yet, Scoops Ahoy is a fictional ice cream parlor that is featured rather heavily in season 3 of Stranger Things. It is also where we see Hawkins’ heartthrob, Steve Harrington, serving some scoops.
To coincide with the drop of the new season, Netflix, Stranger Things and Baskin-Robbins collaborated to transform one of their storefronts in Burbank, into Scoops Ahoy (sans Steve).
Almost unrecognizable, this Baskin-Robbins location is now decked out in a completely nautical theme (are you sick of my puns yet?). Blue and white striped wallpaper, a retro-styled ice cream menu, a neon light ice cream cone… even the light fixture is made up of a ship’s wheel and round bulbs. There is even a makeshift ship with the Scoops Ahoy logo on the wall with an employee in their sailor gear, ready to take a photo with you!
I mean seriously, it’s pretty stinkin’ cute!
It gets stranger…
And by stranger, I totally mean better. While I’m up for cute decor and Instagram opportunities, let’s get one thing straight: I’m here for the ICE CREAM!
Although these flavors have been out since June, it’s still worth the rundown! And honestly, any excuse to talk about ice cream and I’ll take it!
So we’ve got the flavor of the month, the U.S.S. Butterscotch. Normally, I’m not a fan of butterscotch. It’s way too sweet and artificial for my tastebuds. But oh boy, this does not disappoint. It’s a light butterscotch flavored ice cream packed with butterscotch pieces and toffee ribbon. It’s the perfect summer treat that is totally worth every calorie.
Then we’ve got Eleven’s Heaven - a waffle cone flavored ice cream complete with waffle bits and chocolate icing. Take a second and let this bite sit a little… you’ll get hints of Eggo and you won’t be mad.
Finally, go dark and rich with the Upside Down Pralines. This is your classic pralines and cream with a twist of chocolate ice cream, topped with praline pecans and a chocolate caramel ribbon.
And really, I tried all 3 of them for research purposes… yeah, let’s go with that!
Stranger menu items
Aside from the flavor, you can also order Stranger Things themed menu items like
Upside Down Sundae - a scoop of upside down pralines with whipped cream and a cherry underneath
The Byers House Lights Polar Pizza Ice Cream - a rich cookie cake topped with ice cream and m&ms (that resemble Christmas lights)
Elevenade Freeze - a vanilla lemonade slushy
And so much more!
If you find yourself in the Los Angeles area, it is definitely worth checking out, even if you aren’t a fan of Stranger Things. If not for the novelty of visiting this real life Hawkins establishment, then for the nostalgic feeling of enjoying a good ice cream sundae on a hot summer’s day.
Run, don’t walk!
Jared and I went at noon on a Saturday and it wasn’t as packed as I thought it would be. Granted, it opened on the 2nd of July, if you still plan on visiting Scoops Ahoy, you have up till this Sunday (July 14th) to do so!
If you aren’t able to make it
Unfortunately, I am too late to tell you about the Scoops Ahoy ice cream truck that will be serving these delicious treats around selected areas of Los Angeles. BUT, you can still grab these flavors and delectable treats at Baskin-Robbins all around the country. You can even grab some Stranger Things merch like a Scoops Ahoy shirt, stickers and magnets.
On National Ice Cream day, you can get 2 pre-packed quartz for $7.99. This includes the U.S.S. Butterscotch flavor in a seriously adorable, retro packaging.
The Upside Down Pralines and Eleven’s Heaven flavors don’t come pre-packed and aren’t part of this deal, unfortunately. But you can have them pack it up for your in a collectible Stranger Things tub. Just be sure to get a regular size because the collectible tubs don’t come in a small size.
Feeling a little extra?
Because we’re dessert fanatics, we took our ice cream home and concocted some totally sweet pairings.
We made an Upside Down milkshake, topped with whipped cream and strawberries.
The obvious Eleven’s Heaven with Eggo waffles, whipped cream, and maraschino cherries.
And my favorite, the U.S.S. Butterscotch cream soda float. Literally just grab a scoop and pour some cream soda.
On another note, if you live in the UK…
I’ve heard that a Scoops Ahoy ice cream van is making its way through the UK. Want to know which routes it is taking? Head here for their schedule!
So what are you waiting for?
Go go go! Try these flavors now and if you’re in LA, check out the store and let me know which flavor is your favorite!
Till next time
